Go-ahead for cattery plan despite neighbours’ fears over ‘wailing’

-

A CATTERY has been given the go-ahead despite fears from nearby residents that it could cause “adverse health issues” to those living nearby.

Sefton Council granted permission for the planned “Hillsview Cattery”, in Hillsview Road in Ainsdale, which includes building a single-storey cattery with 12 units in the garden of a house which could hold up to 24 cats at once.

Some nearby residents were not happy with the proposals.

On the council’s website, objections were received from two properties on Chesterfield Road and one on Salford Road.

The residents said the cats were “likely to pose adverse health issues to people through sources of pollution and noise”.

They also said that cats were “prone to wailing” when they are upset and therefore would cause harm to residents”, adding that there was no guarantee that this would not happen to the detriment of people living close, particularly during the night.

More objections to the cat accommodation included the business being “totally out of character” for the area and the cattery pens being “an eyesore” as neighbours would be able to see them from their gardens.

But a letter of support was received from a neighbour who said they had spoken to the applicant regarding the scheduling of customer visits, the capacity of the schemes and the construction of the pens,

According to a report on the council’s website, the concerns from objectors about noise were “acknowledged” but could not be supported.

The report said: “The council’s environmental health manager has not objected to the proposal, making reference to the noise insulation proposed by the application as well as requesting a condition to be attached to any approval seeking to address noise issues.”

The cattery is intended to provide short-term accommodation for pets.

Documents on the council’s website said the minimum stay would be two days.

The applicant added that clients arriving at the property would be scheduled on an appointment only basis between the hours of 8am and 10am and 3pm and pm Monday to Saturday.

They said no one would arrive without an appointment and no visitors would be permitted on Sundays or bank holidays.

A collection service would be also offered to minimise visits.

The plans were approved with conditions.
