Danielle’s hospice cycle challenge
A SOUTHPORT schoolgirl is preparing to cycle 400 miles this month to raise desperately-needed funds for Queenscourt Hospice.
Danielle Briscoe is taking on her epic challenge because the hospice, in Kew, has looked after family members of her friends.
The distance she aims to travel over the next few weeks is equivalent to cycling from Southport to London and back, going to Liverpool and back 10 times, or Southport to Paris.
She will celebrate her 11th birthday midway through her challenge.
The 10-year-old, who goes to St Patrick’s Primary School in Churchtown, said: “I have decided to use this time in lockdown to raise money for Queenscourt Hospice in particular because it has helped my friends’ family members and this hospice helps everyone in need.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic they are losing lots of money from public fundraising events which have been cancelled and their charity shops which are closed.
“Please help by sponsoring me during my challenge, any amount will be greatly appreciated.”

He said: “After school closed and lockdown started, Danielle started doing four-mile bike rides with her five-year-old brother, Liam, for their daily exercise.
“We gradually increased the daily mileage until they were doing 80 to 100 miles a week.
“Danielle thought it could be a great idea to try to raise some money for charity. Her great uncle and some of her best friends’ family members have benefited from the care given by Queenscourt Hospice and that was the first place she thought of.
“I contacted them and they thought it was a great idea, and now is time to do it.
“The aim is to cycle 100 miles per week to complete 400 miles in the month of June.”
