The RSPCA column We’re ready to open our doors at last!

WE HAVE some good news to share with you all at last; we can reopen our charity shop on June 15 (in line with government advice).

Our charity shop closed on March 17 due to the lockdown and hasn’t been open since.

This is a huge strain on our Animal Centre as we rely on the money it raises towards animals in our care.

Our charity shop manager (Bev, assisted by Sharon) is very excited to reopen and is currently getting prepared to do so.

We will need to make some temporary changes due to social distancing and hope that you all understand.

We will be limiting the number of customers to three in the shop at one time.

We want customers to be able to walk around the store and browse for bargains, but we want to keep you all safe and protect our staff and volunteers at the same time.

Please be aware that the Animal Centre is currently still closed to the public.

We have a donation bin outside the shop’s front door for donations and the phone lines are open (11am-4pm daily, apart from Wednesday) if you would like to speak to one of our reception team.

We have been overwhelmed with the support and generosity from you all during these difficult times, be it food donations, toys for the animals, donating to our JustGiving page, or even just kind words, it truly means the world to us, thank you.

So far we have found our new temporary adoption process to be successful and we have been waving goodbye to many cats and have more on hold waiting to leave which has delighted us all.

We currently have Bruce and Ned searching for their new homes.

Bruce is an eight-year-old neutered male who is looking for a home where he needs to be the only pet in the household.

He is suitable to live in a home with with cat-savvy children aged 10+. We have found Bruce to be a friendly, quiet cat.

When he first arrived he would spend a lot of time hiding under his bed; staff worked at his pace and he soon came around.

He is now much more confident and enjoys spending time with staff and volunteers.

He will happily meow hello and approach you for a few head bumps.

We are looking for a family who will be around for Bruce and to only leave him for short periods.

Bruce is currently on a weight loss programme which will need to continue in his new home. He isn’t very active in the cattery and we feel he will have more of an opportunity to move around in a new home.

We will discuss more about his weight loss plan with potential new adopters as part of the adoption process.

His assessment is ongoing and may be subject to change, please check or ask for updates.

Ned is just over a year old and is is confident and full of mischief.

He can be rehomed into a household with children over the age of 12 (he’s a little too boisterous for younger children) and will need to be the only pet.

Ned is always on the go and he will bring his new owners lots of entertainment and fun, even occasionally stopping for a few cuddles or snuggles!

He loves to be out and about in the cattery exploring and saying hello to other cats here, however we have found him to become overly focused on them, therefore he will potentially benefit from living in an area that isn’t too busy with neighbouring cats in case he gets into any fights or mischief!

Ned loves toys and going through our cat tunnels here and he will need lots of stimulation in his new home with owners who will enjoy playing with him; he would also benefit from having a large garden to play in.

This assessment is ongoing and may be subject to change, please check or ask for updates.

Please note: Bruce and Ned are looking to be taken into permanent homes, we are not asking for foster arrangements.

We also have strict procedures in place (approved by Defra) which must be followed when adopting any animal.

Please read these at www.rspcasouthport.org/adopting before contacting us to register your interest.

You will find a link for a “perfect match” form for cats on the website, please fill one in and email it to us at info@rspcasouthport.co.uk

We hope that all our supporters are keeping well and staying safe, you can all keep up to date with the our latest information on our website or by following our social media pages, Facebook and Twitter at RSPCA Southport, Ormskirk & District as well as Instagram.
