TWO men were knocked unconscious in an attack outside a Southport pub on Saturday night.

The pair were found injured along Butts Lane after reportedly being assaulted outside the Thatch and Thistle pub.

The men, both in their 30s, suffered cuts to their heads and other minor injuries but regained consciousness at the scene and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police and paramedics were called to the incident at around 9.40pm and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.

It is believed that the victims and attackers know each other and the force is now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Catherine Walsh said: “We’re looking to speak with anyone who was inside or near to this pub on Saturday night, and who may have seen, heard or captured any of this incident.

“Thankfully the victims have not sustained serious injuries but this is through good fortune alone, and we’re keen to find out what happened as we continue the investigation. We initially believe that the suspects and victims are known to each other.

“Violence on our streets will never be tolerated, and we’ll take positive action to find those responsible and put them before the courts.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101 with reference 20000489906 or anonymously contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their online form.
