SOUTHPORT has been put in the international spotlight with a starring role in a hit Sky Atlantic TV series.

New posters for the show’s third series were released last week and featured the lead characters posing on the pier.

Filming for the series, which stars Hollywood actor Tim Roth, took place in various locations around Sefton and Liverpool last year.

Roth, known for roles in films including Reservoir Dogs and Pulp

Fiction, was seen in action in locations including the railway station, Pleasureland and the Salfordian Hotel in Park Crescent.

The area has become home to a number of major productions in recent years, with Peaky Blinders, War Of The Worlds and Das Boot all using locations along the coast.

Friends star Lisa Kudrow also popped in to Pleasureland for a visit while filming nearby last year.

A Sefton Council spokesman said: “From bustling Lord Street to the golden sands of Crosby Beach, Sefton has long been a popular location for filmmakers and photographers.

“With world renowned public art installations, glorious listed buildings and protected heritage sites, the borough is unique for its film offer, having played host to a number of BBC, Sky, ITV and satellite TV shows. We welcome the use of the borough for filming and we have recently helped facilitate crews from Das Boot, Tin Star and War Of The Worlds, as well as supporting a number of student and independent projects.

“A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to help facilitate filming in Sefton, which can involve road closures, building access, parking and much more.”
