Bar reopens after lockdown is lifted

ONE of Southport’s most iconic bars has reopened after nearly five months in lockdown.

Spender’s Bar, on the corner of Scarisbrick Avenue and West Street, has become renowned as one of our town’s liveliest places to party into the small hours.

It is run by Paul Drewery, former bars manager of The Scarisbrick Hotel who was in charge of Maloneys when they won the title of The World’s Best Flare Bar.

Despite months of closure, Paul and wife Chantelle have had their hands full during lockdown after the birth of their baby daughter, Brooke.

Last Wednesday (August 19), the couple were finally able to open the doors to Spender’s Bar again.

Paul said: “We were never going to open until we felt it was safe for the staff to work and for our friends and customers to visit us, but we feel we have enough safety procedures in place for us to now be able to do so.

“It has been an incredibly difficult business time for my wife Chantelle and I, but lockdown also came at a perfect time for us with the birth of our beautiful daughter, Brooke. She really has been a shining star for us in these dark times.

“So, onwards and upwards! Obviously things will be a little different in the bar, but with it being such a small venue anyway you can still expect the same awesome level of service you’ve come to know and love.

“There are only 11 tables inside and seven outside, for the weather!

“So please support us as much as you can! We can’t do it without you!

“I just want to say a huge thank you to my wife, I love you very much and sorry if I’ve been a pain whilst trying to get the bar open!

“Also a massive thank you to my fantastic staff for all their hard work, and to the various people who have helped tirelessly to get the place open.”
