Charity’s £100k lottery windfall

-

NATIONAL charity Revitalise, based in Southport, has received a £100,000 donation for respite funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.

This funding will allow Revitalise to offer financial support to families with a seriously ill or disabled loved one who might otherwise not be able to afford a stay at the Revitalise Sandpipers respite centre and means that people in the community can be invited to start planning an autumn/winter respite break, safe in the knowledge that they can apply for as little or as much funding support as they need.

During these times of increased Covid related restrictions, the safety of Revitalise guests, colleagues and volunteers continues to be top priority, so the charity will be implementing many additional safety measures, including an isolation period.

Revitalise Sandpipers general manager, Darren Holloran, said: “This is a wonderful boost for Sandpipers and gives us a timely opportunity to extend Revitalise respite care to other local families in need of our support at this difficult time.”

Revitalise CEO Jan Tregelles said: “We are hugely grateful to the

National Lottery for enabling us to give much-needed respite breaks to the people who need it most.

“The pandemic has been particularly hard on home carers and their seriously ill and disabled loved ones.

“Although a Revitalise break will be a little different this year, we still hope to offer stays with adapted activities and entertainment, to give everyone a change of scene and a chance to recharge their batteries and return home refreshed.

“However, with thousands more in need, Revitalise is continuing its CareForCarers Raise a Million fundraising campaign, aiming to raise £1 million to enable carers and their loved ones take vital respite care breaks when they need them.

“Being able to handover caring responsibilities, for just a few days, after months of unrelenting pressure, can transform the lives of hard pressed carers.”

Revitalise has also launched its Revitalise 500 Competition to thank all home carers for their dedication and endurance during lockdown and invite them to tell their lockdown and beyond stories in a short 500-word story or poem.

The winner will be selected by a celebrity panel of judges and awarded a seven-day respite care break at their chosen Revitalise Centre.
