More jail after drug dealer reoffends

- BY JAMIE LOPEZ

A DRUG dealer was handed extra jail time after being found with cannabis and amphetamines while already on bail for similar offences.

David Green, formerly of Leyland Road, Southport, admitted possession of the drugs with intent to supply after police uncovered the illicit goods at his home.

Officers searched the property on that day, in April of last year, where they uncovered the drugs.

Prosecuting, Mike Stephenson told Liverpool Crown Court: “Officers detained another man leaving Leyland Road on the morning of April 28 last year. He had amphetamines in his possession and they were, upon that discovery, able to attend the property.

“They found 56g of amphetamines worth £560 and 14 wraps of cannabis worth £140.

“They also recovered cash to the value of £225, a mobile phone and snap bags.”

At the time of his arrest, Green, 54, was on bail after being arrested for similar offences dating back to May and October of 2019. Five months later, he was sentenced to 24 months for those incidents - which both involved larger amounts of drugs - in October of last year but had not been charged for this case.

Defending, Paul Wood said: “I asked the defendant why on Earth he’s carried on offending like he has. He said he’s a cannabis user who became an addict, an addict who became indebted and that has inevitably led into dealing.”

He added that Green had not seen his 28-year-old daughter since being locked up and had lost his home and partner as a result of being jailed.

Sentencing, Judge Brian Cummings said: “It’s true that the quantity of drugs on the previous offences was significantly higher than on this occasion, but the great aggravating factor of that is you were on bail for those offences.”

He handed Green an extra six months on top of his existing sentence.
