Sights set on Torquay in Trophy
ADAM Anson couldn’t hide his joy after scoring the winning goal for the yellows in the FA Trophy Fourth Round clash at Halifax.
Qualification into the next round sees happiness in what was a dark week with question marks lingering over the National League North season due to funding.
Two days after Port’s win at The Shay, it was announced that clubs had voted to suspend the season for the next two weeks.
Anson was keen to ensure all eyes were on the team and their progression in the competition: “It’s been a long time since I scored a goal. It was more about the team performance, getting the win was more important, especially not knowing what’s happening with the league.
“I know the FA Trophy is probably going to carry on so it’s something for us and fans to carry on fighting for.”
With the FA Trophy possibly going ahead despite what happens with the league, it adds a bit of magic to the club.

Torquay are now in Southport’s cross hairs: “Anything can happen in football, like the FA Cup.
“You look at Chorley’s run of form and Marine’s. Like I said, anything can happen in football and I’m looking forward to getting back out on the pitch in February.
“This is another competition and something else for us to play in and obviously if it carries on we will still be training and we will still train as hard as we can to go out and put in a performance against Torquay.”
With a three-week and a half-week interval caused by both coronavirus quarantines and fixture postponements, Southport were eager to impress on their return.
The centre half said: “A few tight muscles in the morning but we’ve been training. We’ve had two weeks off because of Covid and then we trained on Thursday and Saturday so we’ve had two training sessions to prepare for it but there will be a few sore legs. We’ve been ticking over and kept ourselves fit so looking forward to the next game.”
