Donate IT – and help families in need

ACOMPUTER repair shop in Southport is busy helping parents trying to secure online access for their children, as well as people working from home.

Churchtown Computers, based on Botanic Road in Churchtown, remains open during the Covid-19 lockdown as it’s classed as an essential service.

The local independent business is also running a ‘Donate A Device’ service, allowing people to drop in a laptop or device they no longer need so that it can be donated to a family or child who needs it.

Owner Jay Barton said: “Churchtown Computers is currently open during the lockdown as an essential service, a PC repair business, specialising in repairs and upgrades to PCs and laptops for those working from home and for those with kids who may need help with connectivity issues.

“We are on Botanic Road near Mill Lane, and are open for any parents struggling to get their children access online or for those working from home. We are offering discounted PC clean-ups and repairs throughout the lockdown.

“If you are a parent with an urgent predicament and cannot get your child on to any online resources, get in touch with us and we will see how we can assist.”

Jay, who has been in the IT industry for nearly 25 year, said: “Since our shop opened, it has had very positive feedback from local residents.

“In the run-up to Christmas, we made quite a few parents happy by supplying affordable gaming PCs for happy kids on Christmas morning.

“The shop has two members of staff and with the surge in repairs required over the last few weeks, we could soon be looking to take on a third engineer.

“As repair service businesses are allowed and essential during the lockdown, Churchtown Computers was relieved to read on the Government website that we could stay open and continue to offer the repair service to those needing it.

“We have made the shop even more Covid safe by implementing perspex shields, socially distanced zones zones and operating a policy of one customer only at a time only. All repair drop-offs need to be booked in advance.

“We are also doing a ‘Donate A Device’ service, where people can drop in a laptop or device they don’t want or is too slow to use. We will wipe it and try to make it better and then donate it to a child or family that needs it.”
