The RSPCA column Charity shop ready to reopen – and we can adopt outdoors!

-

ONE more paw forward for us here at the animal centre, New Cut Lane, Southport, as once again, we can conduct appointment only outdoor meetings for animal adoption/ collection purposes.

Appointments will only be arranged to collect an animal as part of the adoption process, or to repeat meet and greet a dog if there is an exceptional welfare need.

Currently we cannot conduct any meetings inside buildings and this means we can’t make any changes to our current cat adoption procedure, other than you can now collect rather than have your new pet delivered.

I know this might all look very confusing, but don’t let this put you off, as our staff are here to help you through the process.

Any potential adopter must be able to access the internet and be able to print and sign documentation / supply photos and / or videos and return all ‘electronically’.

You will not be allowed to adopt if this is not the case, as no documentation can be exchanged, in person, on site. We realise this maybe frustrating for some, but the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and anyone visiting the site is the upmost importance to us so for now we must take these steps.

Under England’s Covid-19 ‘road map’ out of restrictions, from March 29 2021, there is still a requirement to minimise travel. Therefore, we are currently asking you not to adopt from us if you live beyond the north of Preston, further than west of Manchester (outside of M60 ring) and Merseyside. We hope it won’t be long until we can reach out to further locations, but for the time being let’s keep it ‘local’.

We will also continue to update our website, as the rules continue to be lifted or changed – www. rspca-southport.org.uk.

The other good news is our charity shop in Eastbank Street Southport reopens on April 12, together with other non-essential retail in Southport. Actually, our charity shop is pretty ‘essential’ to us, so please give it a visit some time soon. Our charity shop staff have been busy preparing new displays whilst closed to the public and we have quite a bit of stock for your perusal.

Currently hoping to be adopted is the beautiful eight-year-old bulldog Ruby. After having a traumatic previous life, she is now looking for a calm loving forever home. Ruby first arrived at the centre back in October 2020 and has been patiently getting ready for rehoming; we feel she is now able to start a new life in a perfect home.

We have found Ruby to be an energetic girl who loves going out for walks; she can be strong on the lead at times, but is eager to learn and loves her training sessions.

This is something we recommend her new family keep doing.

Ruby has been mixed with other dogs on and off lead and we have found she doesn’t stray too far away from us when out and about. Ruby loves food and toys, but can be a little impatient if you are slow at giving treats or throwing her toys.

She is a bossy girl who needs to learn a few more manners. This girl loves to be the centre of attention and has captured the hearts of all the staff and volunteers here at the animal centre.

We feel Ruby needs a home with an owner that has experience with bull breeds; she is suitable to live with older children 16+ and needs to be the only pet in the home.

Ruby needs a patient and loving owner to call her own.

If you think Ruby could be the one for you, please apply by filling in a Perfect Match form. Once we have received the form, one of our reception team will then call you to discuss the form in more detail.

If you have any questions about the adoption process or any of our animals please call reception on 01704 567624.
