AFTER last Saturday’s disappoint­ing loss against Prestatyn, it was important that Southport Trinity bounced back and Craig Prince knew he had a tough task on his hands against league leaders,

Spring View. This would be the first meeting between the sides this season, after the tie at The Rookery fell victim to the weather, without the Wigan side making the trip to Southport.

Prince welcomed the return of Bobby Eyes, Eddie James and Mark Prince, who had all missed the Prestatyn defeat. After the glorious weather all week, it wasn’t a surprise that captain, Prince, called wrong at the toss and Trinity were asked to bowl.

The pitch was hard and outfield rapid.

Sean Cragg claimed a couple of early wickets, leaving Spring View on 19-2 when the pro, Suleman Kahn joined Nathan Ashford in the middle.

The pair added 113 for the 3rd wicket, despite both batsman surviving extremely dubious caught behind appeals.

Ashford fell first, attempting to reverse sweep after reaching 50, LBW to Liam Simms.

Kahn found the boundary with ease, but when nearing his century, he applied the brakes, with the field well spread.

The pressure told, and attempting to reach his century with a maximum, Johnny Hine was underneath the catch at long on.

Spring View skipper, Jonny Broad declared at tea, setting Trinity 239 to win.

Liam Simms was the pick of the bowlers with 4-74. Trinity began the chase positively, with Vidal Crandon and Bobby Eyes both finding the boundary regularly.

It wasn’t long before the opening bowlers were replaced by the spin twins,
