Birthday ruined by ‘screaming and dirty chalet’ at Pontins

- BY KATE LALLY

A DAD-OF-THREE says his daughter’s birthday trip to Pontins was ruined by “constant screaming” and loud music being blasted until 4am.

Anthony Southall visited the holiday park in Southport on Monday, July 26 with his wife Rebecca, their son, Benjamin, and daughters, Addison and Presley.

The family booked the trip for Addison’s fifth birthday, and had planned to stay for four nights - but said there was “no way” they could stay for the duration. The family checked out first thing the Tuesday morning.

Anthony, who had travelled 100 miles with his family for the trip, told the ECHO : “The chalet was filthy, there was pubic hair all over the bathroom.

“The floor was black with dirt, and it was wet, but not like it had been mopped, just wet.”

He also said there was “constant screaming” and music being “blasted” as late as 4am.

The family were also disappointed with the arcade at the park.

Anthony said: “Everything was out of order, we kept having to get our money back after machines swallowed it.

“One of the two-pence machines had been smashed and there was glass everywhere. We told a member of staff and they just said ‘it always happens’ and shrugged.”

Anthony added: “We told the receptionist it was because the holiday park is a ‘s***hole,’ and she just laughed.”

Having travelled more than 100 miles for their holiday, the Southall family wanted to salvage some of their trip.

So they went to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the day, which they said the kids loved, before going home.

Anthony said: “We normally go to Haven, and I know you get what you pay for, but this was outrageous.”

He says he has phoned and emailed Pontins owner Britannia as he would like a refund, but he has not heard anything back.

Britannia was approached for comment but had not replied by the time of publication.
