Plan comes together for celebrating A team
STUDENTS at KGV College were praised as they received their A-Level and BTEC results earned during a disrupted two years of studies.
Pupils learned their grades this week after their sixth-form experience was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting closures of schools and colleges.
With traditional exams unable to take place as normal, schools awarded the grades based on their own evidence of students’ levels of achievement against criteria provided by the exam boards.
The grades are based on teacher judgement, and these have then been agreed by the head of department and the headteacher or principal, before being submitted to the exam board.
The grades awarded were based on coursework, mock exams and other in-school assessments entirely, with no external exams taking place.
Among those to earn outstanding grades, Olivia Hersey achieved A*A*A* in Classical Civilisation, English Literature and History and Katie Edward was awarded A*AA in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
As they received their results this week, pupils at KGV College were praised for their hard work.
Michelle Brabner, principal, said: “We are so proud of all our students and their individual achievements.
“The excellent A Level results reflect the determination and hard work of KGV students and staff. Equally, our BTEC students have excelled themselves, securing very impressive high grades.
“The class of 2021 faced challenges, and are a credit to the College, their families and Southport. Our students have achieved such excellent results.
“They will be progressing onto some of the UK’s top universities, including Oxford, studying courses such as medicine, law, and veterinary science.
“We are so very proud of everything they have achieved here at KGV Sixth Form, and we wish them every success for their future.”
Kathy Passant, chair of governors, added: “We are very proud of our students and it is wonderful to see their talent and resilience being recognised through these results.
“On behalf of the governing board, I’d like to congratulate all students and staff, whose hard work and commitment have produced such impressive outcomes.”
At Scarisbrick Hall School, more than 70% of all grades achieved were at A*/A with a 100% pass rate for the fifth year in a row and 90% of the grades at A* - B.
All pupils achieved their choice of university, while across individual subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Music, Psychology, History, Musical Theatre and Business all achieved 100% A*/A.
Scarisbrick Hall School headteacher Mr Shaw said: “Congratulations to all of our students.
“Their outstanding achievement reflects the strong knowledge and studious attitude that they applied to their subjects. We are incredibly proud of every one of them.
“As well as their academic achievements, I am incredibly proud of who they are as individuals.
“Their talents, compassion, integrity and knowledge will enable them to succeed in life, as well as leaving a lasting mark on our local and global community.”
