‘Joy people felt from being back on stage was immeasurable’

-

THE last eighteen months have been dramatic. As a theatre this has taught us patience, flexibility and adaptability. Here at the Southport Dramatic Club we have been continuously reviewing when to throw our doors again to you, our audience, in the safest possible way.

Following the success of the professional staging of Swan Song at the theatre last month, last weekend we put on a gala event to give our club and our visiting societies the opportunity to ease back into performing as well as giving our volunteers the chance to put our updated safety measures in place.

The joy people felt from being back on stage was immeasurable. The audience in turn commented on how wonderful it was to be back.

Even with a reduced audience for that show, Margaret Mann, a stalwart of the club, commented that when the lights went down, it felt like a full auditorium. The same wonderful experience - the magic of live theatre is coming back.

If you’ve been following us on our social media channels, you’ll have seen that we had originally planned to bring you The 39 Steps next month. Given ongoing pressures and the necessary preparations we need to put in place for your safety, we’ve taken the decision that our first main season play to follow Fame, The Musical, will be now Loot, which will be performed from October 15 to 23.

There’s not long to wait now before Fame,

The Musical, performed by SDC Youth Theatre launches our season with a leap in a two week’s time - from 24 th to 28th August.

The countdown to this energetic extravaganza is well and truly on. Director Paul Wilkinson noted that “After many, many dark and dismal moths, it’s brilliant to see Southport’s Youth Theatre leading the way back on to the stage”.

Our online booking facility will be available imminently.
