Superstars hone their skills for a trip to New York

-

ANEW term is on the horizon and from next Tuesday, August 24 at the Little Theatre we are inviting you to New York City’s High School of Performing Arts.

Amongst the freshman class we have Nick wants to move people with his acting, but does not necessarily see the effect he has on his classmate Serena. Dancer Tyrone brings his background to the ballet to the surprise of Iris.

Carmen is a triple threat who dreams of seeing her name in lights and has a flair for song writing and a passion to succeed. She catches the eye of other students including comical actor Joe and classical musician Shlomo.

Throughout the course of the show we follow them through to Junior and then Senior years as they navigate their own paths with varying successes.

Read More Read the latest from The Little Theatre Life isn’t just a cabaret for the characters and the show tackles tough but essential topics such as race, sexuality body positivity, substance misuse and the pressures of economic inequality.

At the very start of the show, homeroom teacher Miss Sherman reminds the students that it takes more than dreams to succeed, it takes hard work. This is also true of our amazingly talented performers who have worked their legwarmers off this summer to learn, rehearse and perfect this vibrant piece.

Everyone involved with the production will find characters and topics that speak to them and the show has been an ongoing international success due to this universal appeal. The musical has been performed in more than 20 countries since its Miami debut in 1988 and has won multiple awards.

Here in the UK it has had seven West End runs between 1995 and 2019 as well as national tours and has attracted stars such as actor and singer Barbara Dickson and Steps member Ian ‘H’ Watkins (in separate productions!) Our own superstars have been honing this production under the skilled supervision of experienced performers and producers Paul Wilkinson, Pippa Morris and Adam Dutch and are now looking forward to sharing this with an audience.

Fame The Musical opens on Tuesday, August 24 2021 and will run each night at 7.30pm until Saturday, August 28 when there will also be a matinee performance.
