TAKE a tantalisin­g look at these stunning dishes you can enjoy at the new look Southport Market! From poutine oozing with cheese and gravy, to slow cooked Coca Cola ribs, to gyros, to wood fired pizza, to bubble waffles, there is food here from around the world to suit all tastes (and all ages).

Here are some of the Southport Market dishes you have to try – let us know what your favourite dishes are that you’ve tried so far, through our Stand Up For Southport Facebook group.

1. Poutine with Steak (or Lobster)

Welcome to Down and Oot – the first ever Canadian food outlet in Southport! This is your chance to try Canada’s dish, Poutine – chips topped with cheese curd and gravy.

Toppings you can enjoy with it include steak or lobster!

2. Slow Cooked Coca

Cola Ribs

Hector’s Mexicana offers the very best of Mexican street food with an American twist.

Enjoy out-of-this-world dishes such as slow cooked Coca Cola ribs served with gringo fries and mezcal slaw.

Visitors will be able to enjoy an array of fresh, tasty tacos and spicy burritos, and special dishes such as Gringo Sausage & Mac.

3. Wood Fired Pizza

Diners can enjoy traditiona­l wood-fired pizza from 600 degrees, with a range of tasty toppings.

Owner Dan Johnstone developed his passion when he visited the Amalfi coast and spent some time in Naples, the home of Neapolitan Pizza.

It gave him the inspiratio­n to perfect his homemade pizza dough and follow the authentic methods of cooking pizzas.

4. Pie and Mash

While you can savour Italian, Greek, Pacific, Canadian and other world cuisines at Southport Market now, flying the flag for Great British food is Birkdale Pie & Mash! This is not your average pie and mash, but something extraordin­ary.

5. Juicy American Burger

Allotment has gained a huge following since it opened in Birkdale village in 2017.

Enjoy low and slow food with an excellent offering of juicy American burgers, loaded fries, small plates, and what owners Gavin and James insist are “the best steaks in town”.

6. Gringo Sushi

The Vincent Hotel on Lord Street in Southport creates some of the best sushi in the North West.

Among its delicacies is gringo sushi’ especially for non fish lovers.

Also on the menu are dishes such as noodles in a box, bao buns, gyoza, and poke salad bowls.

7. Yeeros

Most of us may be missing our holidays away this year.

Fortunatel­y you can enjoy the fresh taste of Greece and the Greek islands right here at Southport Market, at Pitamu.

Enjoy delicious yeeros, Greek salad, halloumi fries, chips with feta, and much more.

8. Bubble Waffle

After all those tasty main meals, you deserve a delicious dessert... ‘Messy Moments’ offers incredible bubble waffles, ice creams and other desserts. Try a strawberry dream, loaded with fresh strawberri­es and soft marshmallo­ws, or a crunchy Malteser, with toppings of Malteser, crunchy bar and Biscoff!

9. Pastel de Nata

The smells coming from King Street Bakery are delicious.

Pastel de Nata, a Portuguese egg custard tart pastry dusted with cinnamon, is a must try!

There are lots of other tarts and pastries you can try here, sat relaxed with a nice cup of coffee.

10. Barbecue Packs

After enjoying a meal, some pastries and coffee, or some delicious desserts at Southport Market, head into Blackhurst Butchers and take away some tasty barbecue packs, steaks, ready meals or other top quality meat that you can enjoy at home.

Blackhurst Butchers is a family-run Southport firm which has been in the Market for nearly 50 years.

The opening hours for Southport Market are: Wednesday: 10am-10pm Thursday: 10am-10pm Friday: 10am-11pm Saturday: 10am-11pm Sunday: 10am-8pm
