Machine gun in town home raid
AMACHINE gun was found when police raided a home in Southport. Officers executed a warrant at a property on The Causeway at around 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 1.
During a search, a deactivated Mach 10 machine gun and component ammunition parts were recovered from the property. A 30 year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearm offences.
The warrant was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into firearms offences on Merseyside.
Earlier that day police also executed a warrant at an address in Wheatfield Close in Netherley and found a loaded silver revolver.
A 28 year-old man and a 28 year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
Both the man and women are in custody and enquiries are being carried out by the Firearms Investigation Team.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald, of Merseyside Police, said: “We remain determined to remove dangerous weapons from our streets as we know they can be used to cause fear and harm and devastate our communities.
“Both of these weapons have been forensically recovered and enquiries remain ongoing.
“Information about where weapons are being stored is vital to the work we do to protect our communities.
“If you have any concerns about any weapons, drugs or other illegal items being stored, carried or used, come forward directly or anonymously. We’ll use all available powers and working with partners to make our communities safer places to live, work and visit.”
