Three new drive-thru mobile test sites in place for this month
SOUTHPORT residents are being reminded they can attend a drive-through mobile test site if they develop coronavirus symptoms.
In addition to the walk-in sites at Southport Town Hall, Bootle Hall, Crosby Library and Netherton Activity Centre, three drive-through sites will operate across Sefton throughout September.
While self-isolation rules have changed in recent weeks, Government advice is that people should also get a PCR test if they develop symptons or if they have done a rapid lateral flow test and had a positive result.
They can also book a PCR test if they have been in close contact with someone who’s tested positive, whether they have symptoms or not.
A council spokersperson said: “Because it’s still vital that anyone developing coronavirus symptoms promptly books a PCR test, Sefton Council is reminding people that drivethrough mobile test units will be at locations across the borough throughout September.
“Mobile test units are for people who are showing coronavirus symptoms of a high temperature, a new persistent cough or a loss of taste or smell.”
Because around one in three people with Covid-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others, people should still be taking regular rapid lateral flow test twice a week to check if they have the virus.
People who have had both vaccination shots can still carry and pass on the virus so they should also keep testing themselves regularly.
For those who don’t have symptoms, free test kits are available at a range of locations across Sefton, including from all pharmacies, and people can get assisted rapid flow tests at the SMART test sites, at Splash World and Bootle Strand.
People who develop these symptoms, even if they are only mild, need to book a PCR test straight away by making an appointment at www.nhs.uk/ coronavirus or by calling 119.
