Whip its coat off

-

What’s the quickest and easiest way to skin a rabbit? Is it best “undressed” while still warm, or should the carcase be left to cool down?

Edward says: Most people skin rabbits when they are cold due to the fact that by the time they have returned from hunting the rabbits have cooled down. Some hang rabbits up after gutting, but before skinning. Everyone has a different way of doing things.

If I’m going to skin rabbits I tend to do so when they are cold, but it is a lot easier to do the job when they are warm. And if you pick young rabbits as opposed to an old buck then you will make life a whole lot easier for yourself!

The only time I skin a rabbit is when I’m going to eat it, so I paunch it shortly after capture, work the skin off around the middle section and then pull – it normally all comes off apart from the socks and head which I then cut off. All that’s left to do is tidy it up a little and, as the saying goes, “the job’s a good’un”.
