Foot movement

-

“With the two clays I have here it is vital that you get your footwork right, as it is with all shotgun shooting. I adopt the ‘nose over toes’ stance, and keep my feet fairly close together with my shoulders and eyes parallel to the target. It is easier to move quickly if your feet are closer together than further apart. Just because we are in a confined space, it doesn’t mean we can’t move.

“Each shot should be addressed appropriately, starting with our foundations – our feet. We are trying to enable complete freedom of movement in our swing so our body doesn’t try to pull us off line or limit the finish of the shot. Get used to moving your feet towards the direction of the target. Now all you have to do is ‘trust yourself’. If you’re shooting grouse you will be in a position where, with beaters drawing closer, you can only shoot behind and I can also teach the correct procedure for that as well.”
