Smooth movement
“When in the butt I would normally lean against the front of it with my gun resting on the brim. This way I keep a low profile so the grouse are less likely to see me, but it also allows me to rise and mount my gun smoothly should an opportunity arise. It is the same with clays. Try not to swipe or stab at the clays. Bring the gun smoothly up into the cheek and move with the clay – stay on its line and pass it and fire. As with driven clays or pheasants, they rarely come straight over or straight at you – they can be angled to varying degrees.”
