Stamp Collector

WELCOME TO STAMP COLLECTOR

-

It might not be quite as engaging as collecting stamps, but talking about the weather is right up there as a top British pastime, in fact back in 2018 a survey suggested we Brits will spend over four months (yes, months!) of our lives talking about the rain/sun/snow/wind!

It’s no wonder, then, that Royal Mail have revisited the subject on a new set of stamps dedicated to ‘Weather Forecasting’ (see page 18). Other nations have touched on the subject on their stamps too – usually to highlight extreme weather – but it seems appropriate that we’re the world leaders when it comes to weather-themed stamps, this being the second such set we’ve issued.

With spring in the air we should start seeing more sunshine in the coming weeks, and this issue features a few philatelic trips to sunnier climes to keep our Vitamin D topped up, as we explore the stamps of Chile and look back on Gambia’s first pictorials. Meanwhile, our in-depth look at the first decimal Machins will no doubt inspire you to dedicate a few rainy days to these familiar but always fascinating definitives.

We also have some exciting news to brighten up your day. From our next issue, Stamp Collector will be bigger and better than ever, as we incorporate sister title Coin Collector into the magazine. With over 96 pages, the new-look publication will feature the most popular articles from both titles, continuing to bring you all the information and inspiration you need to build your collections.

Of course, the two hobbies have always had a close connection, and we will celebrate these links whilst also continuing to publish expert guides on the many different aspects of both pastimes. By combining resources, expertise, and insights from both publications, we aim to deliver a unified platform that offers unparalleled coverage, expertise, and community engagement for collectors of stamps and coins alike.

We can’t wait for you to see next month’s packed issue, so why not take out a subscription and guarantee your copy? See page 30 for our special offer.
