Corris engines change ends
After 16 years of running trains from Maespoeth to Corris, the Corris Railway has finalised arrangements for uphill haulage, with the engine running chimney-first. The changes follow the acquisition of extra land at Corris and provide a driving compartment for the guard of carriage No. 20 on the downhill run. The railway hopes that running its trains in a traditional manner will increase interest from photographers and raise its profile. The Corris platform will be extended over the winter. In the longer term, there will be a new building to reflect the style of the original with an overall roof, and a run-round. Construction of the Corris Railway’s Hughes 0-4-2ST continues at Alan Keef’s Ross-on-Wye works as funds allow. The wheels and axles have been delivered and tyres ordered from South Africa. With the assembly of the wheelsets, the rolling chassis can be produced.
