Palmerston goes back to London
The Ffestiniog Railway’s veteran England 0‑4‑0STT Palmerston spent two weeks on display at London’s King’s Cross station from February 18. Supported by FR staff and Great Little Trains of Wales, it was publicising the publication of the Big Train Meets Little Train guidebook, which encourages visitors to travel to the Welsh railways by rail. Using a grant from the Department of Transport, the guide was published last year. Built in Hatcham, New Cross, in 1864, Palmerston was accompanied by a slate wagon and the replica Ashbury four‑wheeled carriage of 1868. Two of the FR’s other England locomotives have visited London in recent years ‑ Princess has been displayed at Paddington and King’s Cross, while Prince appeared at the London Transport Museum’s Acton depot open day in 2018.
