Austrian carriage is Alston-bound
The South Tynedale Railway is adding to its collection of continental carriages with a carriage that once operated on the 760mm gauge Mariazellerbahn, in Austria. No. 4240 has been regauged and converted into a mess car by CSI in Crisicor, Romania. As well as seating for about 20 people, the vehicle has a toilet and a baggage compartment suitable for carrying tools. The continental firm has made new tanks and a cab for Resita 0‑8‑0T No. 764.423, and expects to have the locomotive available for service later in the year. It was bought from the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway as a kit of parts last year. Resita 0‑8‑0T No. 764.425, which it also bought from the WLLR, is now in service on a tourist railway at Milovice, in the Czech Republic.
