SHADES OF GREY
From an unintentionally grey ‘Pacific’ to an intentionally grey one - ‘Battle of Britain’ No. 21C164 Fighter Command. Outshopped in July 1947, the Bulleid 4-6-2 was the 1,000th locomotive built at Brighton Works. It is pictured wearing photographic grey livery, and wouldn’t receive its crests and nameplates for another four months. Fighter Command remained as 21C164 for less than a year, receiving its BR number, 34064, in June 1948. A new ‘Battle of Britain’ 4-6-2 No. 21C164 in shop grey at Brighton Works in July 1947.
