Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST Works No. 1931: Following a visit to Didcot Railway Centre, this locomotive (based at Rocks by Rail) is now on loan to the Colne Valley Railway. It will remain there at least until Easter 2018, covering for maintenance work on resident Hunslet ‘Austerity’ No. WD190. Andrew Barclay 0-6-0ST Horden: Volunteers at the Tanfield Railway have completed the re-wheeling of this 1904-built locomotive. Its thorough restoration has included fitting a set of new tyres bought direct from Andrew Barclay in the 1970s, and repairing accident damage caused by a collision with a ‘Q6’ 0-8-0 during industrial service. Bagnall ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST Works No. 2746 ‘The Duke’: The connecting rods have been returned from the Great Central Railway, where they have received new big and little end brasses. Locomotive Maintenance Services of Loughborough has replaced the lower part of the firebox throatplate, formed a new copper tubeplate and removed the backhead, the latter being replaced due to severe cracking. A new foundation ring is also to be fitted, and volunteers from 48624 Locomotive Ltd are overhauling the boiler fittings. At the locomotive’s Ecclesbourne Valley Railway base, the steam heat and vacuum brake pipes have been refitted. Hunslet ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST No. 198 Royal Engineer: Following a successful steam test in February, this ex-Army locomotive has been reassembled at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, with the saddle tank and cab due to be refitted on June 9. It is expected to return to service in July. Hunslet ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST No. 192 Waggoner: Following No. 198 through the Havenstreet workshops, this locomotive was to have its boiler lifted on June 9. IoWSR Engineering Manager Bob Huxtable said: “Depending on what we find on the boiler, a 12 to 18-month turnaround is expected.” Neilson Reid 0-6-0T Coltness Iron Co. No. 1: The Scottish Railway Preservation Society welcomed back the 1899-built Lord Roberts to steam in mid-May. The locomotive, also a veteran of Bedlay Colliery, made its first moves on May 8 before completing a weekend of operation in its familiar guise as the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway’s ‘Thomas’.
