JULY 8 IS TARGET STEAMING DATE FOR LYNTON’S LYN
Replica L&B Baldwin No. 762 Lyn will steam for the first time on July 8, it has been confirmed. Members of the 762 Club, the group financing the construction of the 2-4-2T for the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, have been invited to see the engine steamed at Alan Keef Ltd’s Rosson-Wye facility, where construction of the locomotive is now at an advanced stage. Recent work has involved the final placement of Lyn’s boiler in the frames before steaming, enabling installation of the ashpan. The steam pipes and vacuum ejector exhaust pipe have been connected and the spark arrester fitted. All of the firebox and boiler cladding has been fitted and the three domes attached to the latter. The steel roof has been fitted to the timber cab and work has started on the installation of cylinder drain cock plumbing and lubrication pipework.
