£1 MILLION EXPANSION FOR KIDDERMINSTER RAILWAY MUSEUM
Kidderminster Railway Museum is seeking £1 million to expand and improve its facilities to make its exhibits accessible to all. Based in the GWR‑built warehouse next to the Severn Valley Railway’s Kidderminster terminus, the building was opened in 1990 by SVR volunteers and contains a quarter of a million archive photographs, 40‑50,000 historic documents and 7,500 books. With limited available space to open the archive to the public, the KRM is planning to expand its facilities by erecting a second two‑storey building on the land immediately adjacent to the current museum. The new building will be built in a style complementary to the 1878 building, with the ground floor reserved for displaying exhibits and archive materials relocated to the top floor, which will also be used for exhibitions. KRM curator David Postle said that plans have been drawn up for the new building, which will be similar in size to the current museum. Although some funds are available, further finance is being sought.
