Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST Works No. 807 Bon Accord: A gala event at the Royal Deeside Railway on October 14/15 will celebrate the return of the distinctiv­e tramway skirt-fitted locomotive to Scotland, after an extended loan to Beamish Museum. Joining the former Aberdeen Gas Works machine will be ex-Stewarts & Lloyds Barclay 0-6-0ST Salmon (Works No. 2139 of 1942). Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST Works No. 1719: ‘Lady Nan’s’ overhaul at the East Somerset Railway got off to a rapid start, with the boiler lifted in late July and the wheelsets removed. The 1920-built locomotive has been a regular at the ESR since the mid-1970s. It entered preservati­on as Glenfield No. 2 from its former owners of Glenfield & Kennedy Ltd in Kilmarnock. Fletcher Jennings 0-4-0T Works No. 158: Captain Baxter had a spell in the limelight at the Bluebell Railway on August 5, when it was used to position the restored ‘elephant van’ in its new role at Horsted Keynes as a children’s play carriage. The 1877-built, ex-Dorking Greystone lime works machine then provided brake van rides within Horsted Keynes station for the rest of the day, and was also due to be in action on August 19 with a series of vintage goods trains. Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0ST Invincible: A cheque for £1,500 has been presented to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway by the Isle of Wight Jaguar Enthusiast­s Club. The money will be used to kickstart the overhaul of the former Woolwich Arsenal 0-4-0ST, which last steamed in 2009. Kitson 0-6-0PT Works No. 2509: Unique ‘long boiler’ A No. 5 returned to steam at the North Tyneside Railway on August 3. The 1883-built locomotive was back working passenger services on August 6. While the former Consett Iron Company engine was out of traffic, most trains had been in the hands of diesel traction since the start of the year.
