Then A 50-year Southern Region ‘Then and Now’ with a difference. Alan Pegler’s preserved ‘A3’ No. 4472 Flying Scotsman sweeps round the curve on the east side of Farnboroug­h station, hauling the Gainsborou­gh Model Railway Society’s appropriat­ely titled ‘Farnboroug­h Flyer’ for the air show on September 10 1966. Now Fifty-one years on, and Flying Scotsman - now owned by the nation and carrying its final BR green guise – is snapped in the same location. This time, it’s working the ‘Cathedrals Express’ from Salisbury to London Victoria for Steam Dreams, on May 31 this year.
