NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS CAMPAIGN RAISES £200K
Over £200,000 has been pledged to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s £2.5 million ‘Yorkshire’s Magnificent Journey’ campaign since it was launched last October. The NYMR secured a ‘first round pass’ for up to £4.6m from the Heritage Lottery Fund in August 2017 (SR469) for its estimated £9.2m project. It will fund the construction of a carriage shed capable of storing up to 40 vehicles (£4.16m), essential repairs and renewal of iron bridges around Goathland (£2.67m) and improved disabled access to the NYMR’s coaching stock (£770,000). In addition, the campaign will fund a new volunteer hostel at Grosmont, apprenticeship schemes, volunteer training, and education programmes. The railway has 24 months to raise £2.5m in match-funding to secure the HLF grant. North Yorkshire Moors Historical Railway Trust Chairman John Bailey said: “We’re extremely proud of how much money has already been raised and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, no matter how much they gave. As we look to secure our future, these funds will be invaluable.” For more information and to support the campaign, visit: www.nymr.co.uk/yorkshiresmagnificent-journey
