Brown Bear sent to Cumbria
The Groudle Glen Railway’s under-construction newbuild Bagnall 2-4-0T Brown Bear has been sent to Old Hall Engineering in Cumbria to be completed. Brown Bear’s boiler, built by Bennett Boilers of Highbridge, was successfully fitted into the frames upon arrival in Cumbria. The GGR had been intending to complete the locomotive in-house, but the railway’s similar Bagnall 2-4-0T Sea Lion has required unplanned work in addition to its routine winter maintenance. Old Hall Engineering, at Bouth, near Haverthwaite, undertook the restoration of Krauss 4-6-2 Whillan Beck for the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Society.
