£200k needed to complete No. 82045

-

A£200,000 appeal has been launched to give BR ‘3MT’ No. 82045 a “final shove towards completion” in 2021.

To speed up the final stages of constructing the Riddles 2‑6‑2T at the Severn Valley Railway, the 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust is to put more of the remaining engineering work out to contract.

The biggest outstanding task – the assembly of the boiler – is due to commence at Bridgnorth in 2019 with an estimated timescale of 18 months; and, as detailed in SR483, the SVR wishes to see the engine in service six months after the boiler is finished.

For details of how to contribute, see the leaflet with this issue or visit www.82045.org.uk – for more on the 82045 project, see Inside Track, pages 98/99. To help raise funds, a life member of the trust from New Zealand is to build a 5in‑gauge model of the ‘3MT’ 2‑6‑2T.

Mike Jack, who lives in Auckland, is building a live steam model to be finished as one of the last two examples in BR service (Nos. 82019 and 82029) and plans to follow it up with a model of No. 82045, to be donated to the trust and then sold.

It will be painted in the buyer’s choice of BR black or green, and offers can be made to Publicity Officer Chris Proudfoot; call 01928 787255 or email chris.proudfoot045@btinternet.com

The pony truck axle-boxes for No. 82045 are being machined prior to being sent away for white metalling. Also being machined are the steam chest liners, while the cylinder cladding is being fitted and final adjustments made to the slidebars.
