SCUNTHORPE TO HOST FIRST PUBLIC STEAM RUNS
TATA’s Scunthorpe steelworks will become the unlikely venue for Britain’s first public standard gauge steam-hauled services since lockdown on June 27, with the Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society’s inaugural socially-distanced brake van tours.
Household groups will be allocated a brake van veranda to ensure they will be at least two metres away from any other passengers; tours will last three hours, including a short comfort break at the society’s locomotive shed.
A society spokesman said:
“Due to the costs of operating these tours, we will have to ask for a donation of £50 per family/ household group.” A further tour is planned for July 4, with an additional two tours scheduled for July 11. To book, call 07889297271 or email booking@ afrps.co.uk
