‘NIGHT FERRY’ FOR WINSTON CHURCHILL WHILE LOCOMOTION SLEEPS

-

‘Battle of Britain’ No. 34051 Winston Churchill is now displayed with Anglo-French Wagon Lits sleeping car No. 3792 following a rolling stock reorganisation at Locomotion, Shildon, creating a ‘Night Ferry’ train tableau. The look is completed by a replica roundel headboard made by Curatorial Team Assistant Martyn Halman. The museum adds: “It was finished and fitted just before the lockdown but we share this photo taken at Locomotion on a recent care and maintenance visit as something to look forward to when the museum reopens.” The air-smoothed ‘Pacific’ had been previously coupled to the Southern Railway (Pullman liveried) luggage-cum-hearse van that was used to convey the wartime leader’s coffin between Waterloo and Handborough on January 30 1965.
