‘CLUN’S’ STAR DRAG

-

I was a fireman/secondman at Cardiff’s East Dock and Canton sheds in the 1960s and 1970s and can provide more information on Evening Star’s appearance on Severn Tunnel Shed in 1965 – looking rather worse for wear.

My driver Tom Cox and I were given the task of taking the ‘9F’ there from Cardiff East Dock early that year, coupled to our engine, now-preserved Clun Castle.

The damage to Evening Star was caused by a Cardiff East Dock fireman moving the engine, but with not enough pressure for the brakes, I think it hit the stop block. Ray Leslie, Cardiff
