Free help with bike repairs

Cycling revival project

- Robert Fairnie

Mechanics will help people repair their bikes for free as part of a national cycling campaign this weekend.

The Big Bike Revival is a programme developed by Cycling UK to bring bikes back into use through health checks and by sharing maintenance know-how.

And Recyke-a-bike will be hosting a Born Again Bike Rider event on Saturday after being awarded funding to be part of the campaign.

The event, which will take place at their base on Alloa Road, Stirling, will see mechanics repair bikes in a workshop, provide maintenance advice and offer coaching and skills sessions to build confidence.

Led rides will also be available to showcase some of the best local cycle routes and low-traffic roads.

Recyke-a-bike development manager Phil Jones said: “Cycling for short, everyday journeys is a great way to travel, be active and get fit.

“We’re delighted to be involved with the Big Bike Revival to encourage more locals to get riding and our Born Again Bike Rider event aims to make it easy and fun to get back in the saddle.

“We welcome everyone from children to adults that haven’t cycled for decades to come along and jump on a bike.

“There are dozens of second-hand refurbished bikes available in our warehouse that they can try before they buy.”

Suzanne Forup of Cycling UK said: “We’re working with Recykea-bike to encourage participants to get back on their bikes and experience the benefits of cycling firsthand, as well as support them to swap the car when it comes to short, everyday journeys.”
