A free 15-week personal development course is being offered to young people aged 16-21 who are unemployed, not currently in education, or about to leave school.

The course aims to direct the young to further training or employment and pays a training allowance.

Run by Stirling Council with funding from Skills Development Scotland, two courses are currently enrolling to begin this month and January 2017.

The first is at SCQF Level 3 and focuses on raising confidence, developing communication and life skills.

The second is SCQF Level 4 and is designed to prepare participants for the world of work.

Students can work through a range of activities designed to enhance existing strengths and learn new skills while getting the opportunity to volunteer or participate in work experience in a local organisation or charity.

Employability for youth worker Lynn Hayden said: “This informal programme allows young people to learn the skills they really need to move forward into the career of their choice whilst developing the necessary skills and qualities to sustain and succeed.

“I’ve seen so many changes in the development of young people as a result of their participation.

“By getting involved and working together they used new found skills to take control of their own learning, communicate with each other and take pride in every successful achievement.”
