Author helps nursery kids take write road

Children’s writer and illustrato­r Jo Hall helped youngsters at Cornton Nursery get their creative juices flowing when she visited with her new book.

Jo treated the children to a fun-filled workshop as part of her JoJo Gnome and the Sound Machine book tour earlier this month.

The book, which is aimed at kids aged three to six, is the first in a series of stories about a ‘wee’ Scottish gnome who lives with his grandpa. Together they embark on a series of adventures. On this occasion Jojo invents a sound collecting machine.

Jo, who has written for TV shows such as Balamory and Nina and the Neurons, has been running workshops for young children in schools and nurseries for a number of years.

And when she made her way to Cornton she encouraged the youngsters to get their thinking caps on with the help of social media.

The writer tweeted: “It was an ordinary day at Cornton Nursery until a large box arrived...”.

It was then the job of the children to continue the story using hashtags #jjcnstory1 and #jjcnstory2.

The youngsters also made their own JoJo Gnome puppets which they used to perform a show in front of a green screen in the nursery. Jo then filmed and edited this to create an animation.
