St Mary’s Episcopal Church On Saturday, October 22 there is a coffee morning in aid of the Cornton Vale Visitor Centre known as The Hub from 10am to noon in Dunblane Cathedral Halls. The trolley in the Mitchell Room is frequently emptied: at present most needed items are desserts, tinned soups, instant meals, kitchen rolls, razors and shaving foam. Michael Yuille is selling photograph­ic calendars for 2017 in support of Startup Stirling. These cost £10, half of which goes to the charity, and are available now, as well as mounted and framed prints. The next coffee and chat meeting for the ladies of St Blane’s will be held in Old Churches House on Wednesday, October 26 from 8pm. Cathedral news Midweek service will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 11am. All welcome to come to this short service, held in the Choir. On Saturday, October 22 there will be a coffee morning in aid of “The Hub”, the visitor centre at Cornton Vale. Doors open at 10am. At 4pm on Saturday there will be a concert of music for brass and organ in the cathedral. The concert will be given by the group “Piffari”, from Flensburg in the north of Germany. They will be joined by organist Werner Schillies. They will be playing a variety of music, including works by Handel and Bach, amongst others. Admission to the concert is free, with a retiring collection. Sunday worship is at 10.30am. The preacher will be the Rev Ian Paterson, who has been pastoral assistant for some time and locum before that. This will be our opportunit­y to take leave of Ian. Anyone wishing to contribute to his parting gift should hand it in to the office by noon on Friday, clearly marked “Ian and Lorna Paterson – Presentati­on”. On Sunday there will be a special meeting of the Cathedral Arts Guild to discuss changes to its constituti­on. Guild meets on Monday, October 24 at 7.30pm for a meeting with Clive Wright, entitled “Women in Poetry”.

Concert Internatio­nal accordioni­st John Morgan from Falkirk returns to The Centre at Kinbuck on Saturday, October 29 at 7.30pm for 8pm start. John plays an amazing range of music and sounds more like a full band than a soloist! His party piece of playing the accordion while covered by a blanket always has the audience raising the roof with applause.
