Bannockburn went out of the Bunrigh League Cup at Harestanes on Saturday - and they only have themselves to blame.

The home side won 7-6 in the penalty shoot-out after Burn had led 1-0 and 3-2 but failed to convert their good play or step up to seeing out the game.

The first half was a largely insipid affair with the highlight being two super saves from Stevie O’Hare to keep Bannockburn in the game. In attack, Burn were unable to convert a number of good chances.

They came out in the second half more determined and David Donaldson’s shot after 49 minutes signalled intent to the travelling fans. Sure enough Darren Walker netted the opener from the post-corner stramash.

Within eight minutes Burn were 2-1 down only for them to equalise when Allan Green’s cross-field ball led to Walker heading across goal and Steven Knox netting.

On 70 minutes James Graham put Bannockburn ahead again but a goal of comic proportions gave Harestanes the equaliser and the match went straight to penalties which Burn lost 7-6.

On Saturday, Bannockburn are at home to Shawlands FP in the West of Scotland Cup. Kick-off 2pm.
