No complacency at Linlithgow Rose

Caretaker boss will be in charge for cup tie

Stirling Albion have confirmed that caretaker boss Martyn Corrigan will again take charge of the team for Saturday’s Scottish Cup second-round tie with Linlithgow Rose.

Corrigan has guided the Binos to a 2-0 win at Cowdenbeath and a 0-0 draw against Berwick Rangers since replacing Stuart McLaren at the end of September and must stand an excellent chance of landing the job if Albion can negotiate a tricky tie at Prestonfield.

Rose are also looking for a new boss following the recent departure of Davie McGlynn and the Junior side have former Forthbank defender Todd Lumsden in temporary charge.

Linlithgow have several former Stirling players in their squad, including Gary Thom, Graham Weir, Robbie McNab, Kevin Kelbie and new signing Lewis Small, who spent time on loan to the Binos from Falkirk.

Stirling have endured some anxious moments against nonleague opposition in recent years – beating Hurlford United after a marathon penalty shoot-out and needing a last-minute winner to see off Whitehill Welfare in a replay – but they were much too strong for Cumbernauld Colts last season.

Corrigan was delighted with the effort shown against Berwick Rangers at Forthbank and has called for more of the same in the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

He said: “The boys worked really hard and I think only one team looked like they were going to score. We didn’t feel under pressure at any time and the shape of the team was good. We defended well – that’s two clean sheets in a row in the league and we got another one in a friendly last week.

“The boys are disappointed with a draw and I think that shows you how much we put into the game. We played some good stuff and tried to pass the ball through. We didn’t go route one.”

Corrigan insists there is no chance of complacency when they face Linlithgow. “Every game is big, no matter who it is,” he said. “We’ll approach the game as normal – the boys are hungry. They are desperate to play and they want to do well. The hunger and desire is definitely there.

“It was good to have Bryan Hodge back from injury – I’m a big fan of his and we have missed him in previous weeks. Ross McGeachie also gets better with every game he plays so that is another positive.”

Admission prices for Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at Linlithgow are £10 for adults and £5 concessions. If the game ends in a draw, the replay will take place at Forthbank on Saturday, October 29 and Albion’s Ladbrokes League 2 game away to Clyde that day would be rescheduled.
