Community champions are honoured for making a difference
Rural Stirlingshire residents were among those recognised for their work in a local community at the Provost Awards.
At Stirling Castle’s Great Hall last Friday, Provost Mike Robbins presented accolades to those who have made significant contributions to communities over the past two years.
And there were a host of winners from around the Stirling area.
The Business Award went to Alison Borthwick, who established the Buchlyvie Pottery Shop 27 years ago and has managed to successfully sustain and grow a quality rural business.
Community Awards went to Ellen Cattanach, leader of the Strathfillan Community Development Trust (SCDT) Woodlands Group, and Asif Rasool who has run the Buchlyvie store for over 20 years. Rae Wilson, an elder at Balfron Church of Scotland who founded and runs the Balfron Lunch Club; and Katy Lamb, a long-term resident of Kinlochard who organised the complete refurbishment of the Kinlochard Village Hall, were also honoured.
Jenny Holl, 16, from Blair Drummond, who has achieved a variety of cycling successes in the last 12 months, all while studying for five Highers at McLaren High, Callander was named as the winner of the Youth Award.
And Maureen Moyes, a retired practice nurse who has helped in Thornhill Primary School as an RSVP Forth Valley Schools Volunteer for the past 11 years was one of the Volunteer Sector Award winners.
Provost Robbins said: “There are so many talented individuals living and working in the Stirling area, and often their hard work goes unnoticed or unrewarded.
“It’s so important to recognise these people and to encourage others to replicate their efforts.
