Endrick storm ahead towards league title after latest huge win

-

Runaway leaders Strathendrick racked up another massive win on Saturday as they stride towards the BT West Division Three title.

Poor Moffat where the victims of Endrick’s latest points blitzkrieg and the 78-7 win means the Fintry side have now clocked up a mammoth 385 points in only eight league games, conceding a mere 32.

When the sides lined up on Saturday, the immediate impression was that had a noticeable advantage in bulk, particularly in the pack.

Over the next 80 minutes they were to show occasional flashes of skill and pace but they could not link them altogether as Endrick could from the start and as a result the Rams finished a distant second.

Ewan MacKay took a knock during the week and had been a doubtful starter but it was his birthday and how else could he celebrate than have a game of rugby with his mates.

He added to the celebration by opening the scoring with Endrick’s first try after only two minutes.

His injury put an end to his game after quarter of an hour but by that time his side had an impressive lead.

In seven minutes a long range penalty by Kyle Campbell had gone wide but James Cuthbertson

gathered the drop-out and charged through for the second try.

James Ogilvy added a third only two minutes later and three successful conversions from Campbell had taken Endrick to a 21-0 lead with less than 10 minutes played.

The try bonus was secured after 20 minutes when Angus North made a fine run and found his fellow centre Cuthbertson on hand to go over for his second try, converted by Campbell. Two minutes later North embarked on another 40 metre run to go over in the corner but this time the Campbell boot failed to add the extras.

Moffat did not give up and made a strong bid to get something back but invariably their best efforts foundered for lack of support. Four minutes before the break Endrick got the scoreboard moving again when Ogilvy blasted his way to the line.

The half ended with another Endrick score, Ross McKay touching down for the seventh try. Campbell added the conversion to give his side a 45-0 lead.

If Moffat hoped that Endrick would ease up in the second half they got a quick answer when Ogilvy and Neil Callander combined to leave the coach going over for a try converted by Campbell.

The next try quickly followed when full back Ben Anderson contributed a brilliant solo scoring run to the posts leaving his skipper with his easiest kick of the day.

The scoring dried up after that and the game was into its fourth quarter before Endrick struck again. Ruaraidh McLaughlin then scored Endrick’s 10th try, not converted, and Ross McKay quickly added his second, converted.

Ten minutes from time the visiting fans got a reward for their patience when their team scored a converted try.

Endrick however had the last word when in the final move of the game Joe Dunn scored his first try for the club and Campbell’s ninth successful kick gave Endrick a 78-7 win.

On Saturday Endrick are at home to Bishopton, kick-off 3pm.
