Particularly peculiar case
Brian McConnachie QC, defending Paul Hill, described the case as “particularly peculiar”.
He said Hill had spent most of his time on the run in the UK - and had been in Guernsey, for some time in Dublin, and for a long time in Harrogate.
He said:“He also came back to Scotland when his mother had cancer and looked after her until she passed away.”
Mr McConnachie said Hill’s father was now also ill, with cancer and COPD.
He said:“Due to the illness of his father, he discussed the matter with his family, and it was as a result of that he decided he should do something to resolve the situation.”
He said Hill made contact with his solicitors, and made arrangements to hand himself in to police in Stirling.
Since his release on bail he had become the registered carer for his father, and had been working as manager of the Falls of Dochart Hotel since the spring.
“During all the time this matter has been outstanding he has never been in any trouble with the police, never come to the attention of the authorities,”said Mr McConnachie.
“He is under no illusions that the most likely disposal is custody.”
Judge Lord Ericht revoked bail and remanded Hill in custody to the High Court in Edinburgh on November 30.
He said:“Given the nature of the offence, involving a firearm, and your failure to appear, I refuse the application for bail.”
