Sent back to jail

- Court reporter

A Dunblane man was jailed for almost seven months for a string of offences while out on licence from prison.

Daniel Watson, 22, of Springfield Court, pleaded guilty to three charges of attempting to steal a motor vehicle at Moray Street, Doune, on June 15.

He also admitted threatening and abusive behaviour in Murray Place, Stirling, on September 20 by challenging a man to fight, following him to his car and punching the rear windscreen and kicking the car door.

And he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer by attempting to kick him to the body, and resisting arrest by struggling violently with officers.

Fiscal depute Michael Maguire told the court that witnesses walking home in Doune saw Watson and another man trying to start a car.

They called police, who arrested the pair that night.

On September 20 Watson asked a man outside Katie’s Bar in the city centre for a cigarette.

When the man refused Watson said to him “Square go?” and followed the distressed man who got into the car.

He kicked the vehicle and when police arrived Watson began struggling with officers.

As they tried to put him in handcuffs he kicked one of them.

Sheriff William Gilchrist told Watson: “You have a record of offending in Scotland, for which you have been given community disposals and even sent to prison.

“You then go to England, for which you attract a custodial sentence for which you are on licence.

“Having regard to the nature of the offences and your record, only a custodial sentence is the appropriate disposal.”

He sentenced him to 29 weeks in prison, backdated to when he was first remanded in custody on September 21.

Only custody is appropriate
