Bonfire night extravaganzas

Events look set to go with a bang

- Gareth Jones

Revellers are set to head out in the cold to enjoy Bonfire Night this weekend.

Fireworks will light up Loch Katrine, with a special cruise setting off from Callander tomorrow (Saturday).

Guests will set off on the steamship Sir Walter Scott at 2.30pm for live music performed by the one and only Shaky.

They will enjoy burgers and hot dogs from the on board barbecue, before watching a spectacular fireworks display over the Trossachs Pier, with fireworks launching at 5pm.

Tickets are available by phoning 01877 332008, or emailing enquiries@ lochkatrine.com.

The Stirling and Bridge of Allan Fireworks Display takes place tonight (Friday), with music provided by eighties Scottish pop legends Hue and Cry.

The event is organised by Stirling and Bridge of Allan Round Table to not only light up the sky and put on a show for the local community, but also to raise valuable cash for local good causes.

Gates at the Strathallan Games Park open at 5.45pm, the music starts at 6.15pm and the fireworks display gets underway at 7.45pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £2 children and concessions £4. Start up Stirling and Dunblane Community Centre, along with scout troops, sports clubs, musical groups and primary schools, all benefit from Round Table fundraising.

And the money raised through the event will be used well to help groups and charities in the area after paying off any costs brought about by staging the event.

Round Table chair Graeme Mair said: “The more people who come through the gates, the more money we can raise.

“By having an icon of 80s pop we hope to attract a decent crowd.

“We’ve been debating whether they are the biggest act to play in Bridge of Allan since The Beatles and we’ve not come up with anyone else.”

He added: “We are hoping it’s a great occasion, the weather stays dry and everyone has a good night.”

In addition to fireworks and live music there will be a bonfire, food, and fun activities for all the family so Bonfire Night looks like one to remember.
