Macrobert to take Christmas classic to hospital wards

- Staff reporter

People receiving hospital or hospice care will next month be given the chance to share some festive film magic.

A film tour, organised by the Macrobert Arts Centre, will be heading to Strathcarron Hospice in Denny at the start of December to stage a number of screenings of the festive classic White Christmas.

They will then head to the children’s ward at Forth Valley Royal Hospital where Arthur Christmas will be screened.

The tour has been sponsored by Stirling consultancy firm Projects on Track.

Strathcarron’s Mandy Malcolmson welcomed the initiative and said patients had voted on their choice of film.

He added: “Our day care patients find it difficult to get out and about, particularly to the cinema.

“The Macrobert team will be setting up a cinema area in the day care unit every afternoon for a full week.

“This means all our day care patients, and patients in the inpatient unit, will get the opportunity to be part of a cinema experience, complete with tickets, popcorn and ice cream.”

Julie Ellen, artistic director at Macrobert, added: “It’s fantastic to be able to reach out and share some of our festive magic with local people who can’t make it into our venue over Christmas.”

The Festive Film tour is a development of Macrobert Arts Centre’s long standing Christmas Appeal, which over the past five years has seen local business and individuals donate over £40,000 to give 3200 people from across Stirling and the Forth Valley a wonderful night of fun, music and dance at the panto held there.

Macrobert works with more than 20 local charities to make sure the tickets reach those most in need including Stirling Young Carers, Action for Children, Home Start, Stirling Women’s Aid and Strathcarron Hospice.

This year the arts centre is also expanding its Christmas Appeal to include very young audiences by offering to local charities tickets for How To Be A Christmas Tree, a Macrobert show aimed at children of five and under.

There’s still time to make a donation to the 2016 Christmas Appeal. Donations of £15 secure a panto ticket, signed cast photo for each child and family and Mackie’s of Scotland have pledged to donate a free interval ice cream to everyone who comes along.
